Union Oil; 1949

This is a beautiful photograph of yet another blowout in Santa Fe Springs, California, this one by Union Oil in 1949, just down the road from Getty's neighborhood, seen here on Oily Stuff. Twenty five years after the initial discovery in Santa Fe Springs these guys could still not keep the gas caps in these oil reservoirs from getting in their face.

Union is pouring the water to this one trying to keep it from catching fire. There is pipe stood back so perhaps they swabbed the well in by mistake; who knows. It will bridge pretty quickly, hopefully, or somebody with big nuts is going to have to go up in there and see what, if anything, can be done.
