As an add on to my comment on Mike's post about depletion, we're now seeing calls for getting rid of the Exxon CEO. Because he spoke his mind and said that going in and out of the negotiations around what happens after oil put us in a worse position to have an influence with others who have different views. Note, he didn't say that we don't need to worry because we have an inexhaustible supply of oil and gas. The commentator seems to believe they know more about the state of world oil resources than one of the biggest oil companies that isn't run by a government. Now there's some serious ego.
But goes to show you that we aren't really "data driven". We want to read what we want to see. It's like driving a car at a wall and saying it's not there.

He quips if the United States was smart it wouldn’t have drained its shale as fast as possible for export to maintain the status of the petrodollar world currency status. At the end he wishes there was more critical thinking and empathy, especially among the political spectrum. Whatever the case, …it looks as if the handwriting is on the wall.
